Anambra State Government Shuts Down Church Over Alleged Oke Ite Practice in Nkpor
The Anambra State Government has sealed the ministry of Pastor Onyebuchi Okocha in Amafor village, Nkpor, Idemili North Local Government Area, over allegations of involvement in Oke Ite practice.
Oke Ite is a ritual concoction reportedly made by native doctors using human parts, animals, and herbs mixed in a mud pot for money rituals. The state government has identified it as a fraudulent scheme used by native doctors to deceive unsuspecting victims and has launched a crackdown on those involved.
Ken Emeakai, the Special Adviser to Governor Chukwuma Soludo on Community Security, announced the church’s closure while leading the Operation Udo Ga-Achi security team to the site. He stated that the decision followed multiple public petitions and a video in which Pastor Okocha allegedly admitted to practicing Oke Ite and other questionable activities.
Emeakai further revealed that liquid substances found within the ministry would undergo forensic testing. He emphasized that while the government respects all religions, it will not tolerate practices that encourage a get-rich-quick mentality.
Additionally, forensic experts will be deployed to collect samples from River Bethsaida, where the pastor, also known as Aka na asa uchu, allegedly conducted ritual baths for people, to assess any potential health hazards.
