Jay-Z Accuses Lawyer Tony Buzbee of Blackmail in New Court Filing
Jay-Z has filed new court documents accusing attorney Tony Buzbee of attempting to extort large sums of money from him through two separate allegations—one of which was dismissed, and the other never reached the courts.
According to documents obtained by TMZ, Buzbee sent Jay-Z two demand letters in November 2024. One involved a Jane Doe who accused Jay-Z and Sean “Diddy” Combs of sexually assaulting her in 2000 when she was 13. The second came from a John Doe who claimed Jay-Z assaulted him at a Beverly Hills party in 2015 after being secretly drugged by someone other than Jay-Z.
Jay-Z has vehemently denied both accusations, calling them “false and ridiculous in every respect.” His legal team views Buzbee’s letters as blatant blackmail attempts, alleging that Buzbee demanded “something of substance” to settle the situation.
Last week, the Jane Doe accuser voluntarily dismissed her case, marking a legal victory for both Jay-Z and Diddy. However, in his latest filing, Jay-Z claims the timing of the lawsuit was strategic. He alleges that Buzbee deliberately filed it on the eve of his daughter Blue Ivy’s Hollywood premiere for Mufasa: The Lion King, aiming to put him in a difficult position—either skipping the event or facing media scrutiny. Despite this, Jay-Z attended the premiere with Blue Ivy and Beyoncé but avoided speaking to the press.
In November 2024, Jay-Z initially filed a lawsuit against Buzbee under an anonymous identity, accusing him of extortion. He later revealed himself as the plaintiff, and Buzbee sought to have the lawsuit dismissed.
Now, Jay-Z is pushing to keep the case against Buzbee alive, stating in court documents that he considers the attorney’s actions “an existential threat to my reputation, my career, my family, and everything else I have spent my life achieving.”
Despite the dismissal of the Jane Doe lawsuit, Buzbee remains defiant, telling TMZ, “We expect that lawsuit, which is frivolous, to be dismissed.”
