The Nigerian government has rejected corruption allegations made by Binance’s Head of Financial Crime, Tigran Gambaryan, against its senior officials.

In a statement issued on Friday, February 14, Minister of Information Mohammed Idris described Gambaryan’s claims as “unsubstantiated and lacking credibility”, suggesting they were an attempt to discredit and intimidate those who ensured his prosecution.

“We categorically deny the retaliatory claims made by Mr. Gambaryan against Nigerian officials involved in his case, and we urge the public to disregard these false accusations in their entirety,” Idris stated.

He further emphasized that the Nigerian government prefers not to engage with Gambaryan, especially given the diplomatic interventions that facilitated the resolution of his case.

“We are confident that both the Nigerian and American judicial systems will provide Mr. Gambaryan with a fair opportunity to substantiate his claims in court. Until then, we advise the public to exercise caution and not be swayed by his unfounded and malicious accusations,” Idris concluded.

The statement comes after Gambaryan alleged that three Nigerian lawmakers demanded a $150 million bribe in cryptocurrency to settle his legal troubles, a claim the government has firmly denied.
