The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has officially handed over the property and assets of Nok University, Kachia, Kaduna State, to the Federal Government.

EFCC Chairman Ola Olukayode presented the institution’s documents to the Minister of Education in a ceremony held at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, with Vice President Kashim Shettima in attendance. The transfer follows a Federal High Court ruling in June 2024 that ordered the final forfeiture of the university, previously owned by a private individual.

In response to the court’s decision, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu directed that Nok University be converted into a Federal University of Applied Sciences to drive development in Southern Kaduna, a region affected by security challenges.

Speaking at the event, which also included Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani and other key stakeholders, Vice President Shettima described the handover as a testament to the administration’s commitment to national development and inclusivity. He commended President Tinubu for prioritizing the university’s transformation, making it the first agenda item at the Federal Executive Council meeting.

Shettima also acknowledged the efforts of General Martin Luther Agwai (rtd), Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah, Justice Kumai Bayang Akaahs, and Senator Sunday Marshall in facilitating the transition. He assured that preparations for the university’s operation are underway, with the institution set to welcome its first students by September 2025.

Governor Sani expressed gratitude to President Tinubu, calling the establishment of the Federal University of Applied Sciences a major milestone for Kaduna State and the country. He reiterated his administration’s commitment to inclusivity and peaceful coexistence.

EFCC Chairman Olukayode detailed that the forfeited assets included academic buildings, a water factory, an international hotel, and an event center. The transfer aligns with the Federal Executive Council’s resolution on February 4, 2025, which formalized the institution’s transition to federal ownership.

Minister of Education Dr. Tunji Alausa lauded the university’s establishment as a demonstration of the government’s commitment to expanding human capital development in Nigeria. He emphasized that education, health, and social welfare remain central to President Tinubu’s vision for national progress.

Chief of Defence Staff Gen. Christopher Musa described the development as a significant step for Southern Kaduna, acknowledging President Tinubu’s dedication to the region. He highlighted that the university will not only benefit Kaduna but also enhance educational opportunities across Nigeria and contribute to long-term peace and stability.
