The Abia State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested three individuals for alleged oil pipeline vandalism, oil theft, and illegal dealings in petroleum products. The operation took place in Umuowaga Umuelechi Obuzo Asa, within Ukwa West Local Government Area of Abia State.
Acting on credible intelligence, the NSCDC’s Anti-Vandal Patrol team swiftly responded and uncovered significant quantities of petroleum products suspected to have been siphoned illegally. The suspects have been identified as:
- Oscar Eteobong, 37, from Abak Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State
- Issac Aniete Edemba Udoh, 40, from Obot Akara Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State
- Emmanuel Uzoma Sunday, 20, from Isiala-Ngwa North Local Government Area, Abia State
Confirming the arrests, Abia State NSCDC Commandant Akinsola Aderemi stated that investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend others involved in the illicit operation. He described oil theft as an act of economic sabotage and reaffirmed the Corps’ commitment to eliminating such criminal activities in the state and beyond.
Commandant Aderemi also issued a stern warning to those engaged in illegal activities, urging them to desist or face the full weight of the law. Additionally, he called on the public to support the NSCDC by providing credible intelligence to help combat crime.
