“Minimum Wage Committee Inauguration Scheduled for Tuesday by FG”

Federal Government is gearing up to establish a 37-member Tripartite Committee on National Minimum Wage, tasked with proposing a new National Minimum Wage for the country.

The formation of the Committee follows the approval of President Bola Tinubu, as outlined in a statement on Sunday by Segun Imohiosen, representing the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.

Scheduled for Tuesday, January 30, 2024, at 12 noon, the inauguration will take place at the Council Chamber, Presidential Villa, State House, Abuja. Leading the Committee is Bukar Aji, the former Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, with representation from the Federal Government, State Government, Private Sector, and Organized Labour.

From the Federal Government, notable members include Hon. Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, Hon. Minister of State, Labour and Employment; Mr. Wale Edun, Hon. Minister of Finance & Coordinating Minister of the Economy; Alhaji Atiku Bagudu, Hon. Minister of Budget Economic Planning; Dr. (Mrs) Yemi Esan, Head of the Civil Service of the Federation; Dr. Nnamdi Maurice Mbaeri, Permanent Secretary, GSO. OSGF; and Ekpo Nta, Esq, Chairman/CEO, NSIWC – Member/Secretary.

Representatives from State Governments include Alh. Mohammed Umar Bago (Niger State), Sen. Bala Mohammed (Bauchi State), Alh. Umar Dikko Radda (Katsina State), Prof. Charles Soludo (Anambra State), Sen. Ademola Adeleke (Osun State), and Mr. Otu Bassey Edet (Cross River State).

Incorporating perspectives from organizations, the Committee features members from the Nigeria Employers’ Consultative Association (NECA), Nigeria Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA), National Association of Small and Medium Enterprise (NASME), and Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN).

Furthermore, organized labor is well-represented by members from the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC), ensuring a comprehensive and inclusive approach to minimum wage considerations.

To facilitate the smooth conduct of the inauguration, members are advised to arrive early for security clearance and should be seated by 11:30 am. A shuttle bus will be available at the Pilot Gate to transport members to the venue.
