Former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo’s ex-spokesman, Laolu Akande, has called on President Bola Tinubu to establish a tripartite committee involving members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the National Assembly, and the Presidency.
Akande, speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily program, emphasized that such a committee would address communication gaps among the three interconnected but independent structures, fostering seamless governance.
He highlighted the importance of a tripartite committee, citing the example of a similar committee established by former President Muhammadu Buhari and led by Osinbajo. Akande argued that concerns raised by some northern APC members in the National Assembly about relocating certain departments of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) could have been resolved with effective communication.
Akande reasoned that moving certain CBN departments to Lagos was logical, considering the concentration of commercial banks’ headquarters in the city. Similarly, he advocated the relocation of specific FAAN departments back to Lagos, emphasizing the city’s status as the aviation hub of Nigeria.
Addressing communication issues within the APC, Akande expressed the need for effective coordination between the party and the government. He recalled the past committee, headed by the Vice President, which included members from the Presidency, the party, and the National Assembly, highlighting the importance of regular meetings to ensure connectivity and coordination.
Akande concluded by urging President Bola Tinubu to establish a similar platform for the Presidency, the National Assembly, and the ruling party to meet regularly and resolve issues, addressing the current communication gaps within the government. He emphasized that improved communication would contribute to better public understanding of the government’s actions.
