The explosion in Ibadan, Oyo State, prompting three fatalities and injuring 80 individuals, has prompted the Federal Government to initiate investigations.
Minister of Solid Minerals, Dele Alake, conveyed in a statement on Wednesday that the ministry’s officers will collaborate with the Oyo State Government to determine the exact cause.
Expressing sorrow over the incident, Alake stated, “I am saddened by the news of the explosion that occurred yesterday night in Ibadan, Oyo State. The tragic incident had devastating effects on lives and property.”
He offered condolences on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Solid Minerals to Governor Seyi Makinde and the people of Oyo State, extending sympathy to the wounded and other victims.
Alake concluded by expressing prayers for comfort to the bereaved families and those who suffered losses, hoping for strength as they begin the process of rebuilding.
“The Oyo State Government, along with Emergency Response Agencies from both state and federal levels, has committed to providing assistance to the affected area.
“I have instructed the mine officers from the ministry, already present at the Ibadan site, to actively participate in the ongoing investigations to uncover both immediate and underlying causes of the explosion. A thorough and detailed inquiry has been ordered, with our officers collaborating closely with the Oyo State Government to determine the actual cause.
“If the explosion is linked to mining explosive devices, as initially reported, the ministry will intensify efforts to clamp down on those illegally acquiring and storing explosives.
“I applaud Governor Seyi Makinde for swiftly mobilizing emergency response, including the deployment of fire services, police, and security agencies.
“I encourage citizens to prioritize safety and report any individuals or organizations posing threats to public health and security.”
