The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, accompanied by high-ranking officials from the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited, conducted an inspection on Monday of a vessel seized with approximately 200,000 litres of stolen crude.
The vessel was apprehended through a joint operation involving the Nigerian Navy and the private security firm Tantita Security Services, resulting in the arrest of twenty-three suspects on board. The CDS assured NNPC and the public that the Chief of Defence Intelligence would initiate an immediate investigation to identify the individuals responsible for the illicit activity.
Mele Kyari, the Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC, expressed concern, off-camera, about the audacious surge in crude oil theft despite ongoing efforts to boost oil production and enhance government revenue in the country. The vessel was captured off the coast of the Gbaramatu Kingdom area in Warri, Delta State, and has been brought to the Oporoza area for further investigation.
