President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has temporarily suspended all programs administered by the National Social Investment Programme Agency (NSIPA), as announced by the Federal Government. The suspension, lasting six weeks initially, comes in light of an ongoing investigation into alleged malfeasance within the management of the agency and its programs.

The four programs under NSIPA’s administration, namely the N-Power Programme, Conditional Cash Transfer Programme, Government Enterprise and Empowerment Programme, and Home Grown School Feeding Programme, are all affected by the suspension.

President Tinubu expressed concerns about operational lapses and improprieties in payments to program beneficiaries, prompting the decision to freeze all NSIPA-related activities during the suspension period. A ministerial panel has been constituted by Tinubu to conduct a comprehensive review of the agency’s operations and recommend necessary reforms.

Despite the temporary halt, President Tinubu assured stakeholders and the Nigerian public of his commitment to a swift and unbiased process. He emphasized the administration’s dedication to ensuring that social intervention programs function as intended, benefiting the most vulnerable Nigerians.

In a related development, the President had earlier suspended the CEO of NSIPA, Halima Shehu, on January 2, citing concerns over alleged financial malfeasance. Dr. Akindele Egbuwalo, the National N-POWER Program Manager, has been appointed in an acting capacity as NC/CEO during the investigation. This action follows Shehu’s confirmation by the Senate approximately three months before her suspension.
