Lagos State Government announced on Saturday that the number of Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) viewing centres for 2023 has been raised from 15 to 20.
Mr. Damilare Orimoloye, Special Assistant to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Sports, shared this update during an interview with NAN at the monthly ‘Keep Fit Lagos’ program. Orimoloye assured Lagos residents of an enhanced experience during the AFCON matches, stating that the expansion aligns with Governor Sanwo-Olu’s THEME Plus Agenda, emphasizing social inclusion.
The concept is to offer our community the chance to socialize while enjoying AFCON 2023; individuals will gather to engage with fellow football enthusiasts.
“This initiative aims to foster connections and networking within our community in a welcoming atmosphere.
“We’ve included five more centers to the existing 15, bringing the total to 20 across Lagos, promoting greater proximity to encourage more participation.”
The Director General of the Lagos State Sports Commission, Oluwatoyin Gafaar, highlighted the addition of more attractions at the viewing centres.
Gafaar stated, “Compared to the previous 15, we are expanding to 20 centres this time, with a commitment to ongoing expansion.
“The Lagos government, under Governor Sanwo-Olu’s direction, is fully supportive and aims to enhance the sense of community in Lagos.
“The centres will open at 3 pm and operate until the conclusion of the last match, catering not only to Nigeria’s fixtures but all AFCON 2023 matches.
“Incentives such as complimentary food, drinks, popcorn, and more will contribute to an exciting experience for football enthusiasts in Lagos during AFCON 2023.”
