“Dangote Refinery and Petrochemical Company Initiates Production.

On Friday, production officially commenced at the Dangote Refinery and Petrochemical Company. The refinery welcomed its fifth crude oil shipment, consisting of one million barrels of Bonny Light, supplied by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited last week.

The state-of-the-art facility, with a daily oil processing capacity of 650,000 barrels, commenced operations in May 2023. Notably, the refinery is strategically designed to process crude oil grades sourced from Africa, Asia, and America, showcasing its global reach in oil processing.”

“The Managing Director of Dangote Ports Operations, Mr. Akin Omole, shared insights with newsmen at the Dangote Quay in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos. Emphasizing the importance of a consistent crude oil supply, he stated that once the six million barrels are fully delivered, the refinery will smoothly initiate operations.

He explained, “The ample supply will facilitate the initial run of the refinery, enabling the production of diesel, aviation fuel, and LPG, followed by the subsequent production of Premium Motor Spirit.”

Originally scheduled for a 2021 opening, the refinery was officially inaugurated in 2023 by then-President Muhammadu Buhari, marking a significant milestone in Nigeria’s industrial landscape.”

“The Aliko Dangote-built oil refinery, though scheduled to start in June 2023, received its first crude supply late last year. The facility boasts excess petrol, diesel, kerosene, and aviation fuel, considering potential exports alongside meeting Nigeria’s refined goods demands.

Equipped with two Single Point Mooring systems handling crude oil and three more for petroleum products, as well as truck-loading gantries capable of loading 2,900 trucks daily, the refinery stands as a significant infrastructure on 2,635 hectares in the Lekki Free Zone on the outskirts of Lagos.

Anticipating concurrent production, the Port Harcourt refinery is expected to commence operations, as confirmed by the Federal Government in December.”
