The Governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu, has passed away. The 67-year-old leader, who had been grappling with leukemia and prostate cancer, breathed his last in Lagos on Wednesday, December 27.

Late Akeredolu had been under the care of State House doctors in Lagos as international travel was not feasible. Previously, he returned to Nigeria in September after a three-month medical sojourn in Germany. On December 12, following President Bola Tinubu’s directive, he took another medical leave, handing over power to his deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, who has been serving as the acting governor.
