On Thursday, the Senate officially administered the oath of office to Barrister Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, the Senator-elect for the Kogi Central Senatorial District, marking her induction as a member of the 10th Senate.
This pivotal moment followed her receipt of the Certificate of Return from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), confirming her as the duly elected Senator for Kogi Central.
Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has achieved a historic milestone as the first female Senator from Kogi State.
Previously, the Court of Appeal in Abuja upheld Akpoti-Uduaghan’s status as the rightful victor in the Kogi Central Senatorial Election held in February. The court dismissed the appeal lodged by Abubakar Ohere of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on the grounds of lacking merit.
Earlier in September, the Kogi State Election Petition Tribunal in Lokoja had nullified Ohere’s purported victory in the Kogi Central Senatorial Election, asserting Akpoti-Uduaghan as the actual winner of the February senatorial poll.
While Ohere sought recourse by appealing to the higher court, the appellate court continued to uphold Akpoti-Uduaghan as the legitimate victor of the election.
