“A fresh crisis has gripped the Rivers State House of Assembly, fueled by rumors of an impending impeachment procedure against the state Governor, Sim Fubara. On Monday, the Assembly took a significant step by removing its leader, Edison Ehie.
The Assembly’s decision to remove Ehie came in response to allegations of his involvement in the burning of the Assembly Complex on Sunday night.
Under the leadership of Speaker Martin Amaewhule, the Assembly even went as far as serving an impeachment notice to the governor, despite Fubara’s surprise visit to the Assembly Complex during these developments.
In the midst of this chaos, House members swiftly evacuated the Assembly Complex for their safety as tear gas was deployed outside the premises.
Outside the Complex, protests erupted with supporters of the governor vehemently opposing his impending impeachment.
The exact connection between the fire and the political turmoil remains uncertain. However, speculations about an ongoing feud between Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, who currently serves as the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, have been circulating for some time.
