On Thursday, President Bola Tinubu celebrated the Supreme Court’s decision to uphold his victory in the presidential election held on February 25th.
In a unanimous judgment, the apex court rejected the appeals filed by Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP). These appeals had alleged fraud, violations of electoral law, and questioned Tinubu’s eligibility to run for president.
Following the verdict, President Tinubu released a statement, emphasizing the unwavering strength of our nation’s judiciary.
The President stated that this judgment conclusively settles the debates surrounding the outcome of the highly competitive election, where he emerged victorious against the PDP and LP candidates.
“While today’s verdict definitively resolves the contentious discussions regarding the true winner of the 2023 Presidential election and adherence to the constitutional requirements as outlined by the law, I want to emphasize that my confidence in our nation’s judiciary has never wavered, not even for a moment. I am certain that our esteemed courts of law will consistently dispense justice to all Nigerians in all matters and at all times,” he affirmed.
“Despite the barrage of pressures and attempts at intimidation by some political figures, the judiciary has displayed its unequivocal dedication to upholding the rule of law for the advancement and safeguarding of humanity,” President Tinubu concluded.
