The Lagos State Government has announced that it will be bringing 14 personnel from the Lagos State Traffic Management Agency (LASTMA) before a disciplinary panel to address issues related to extortions and high-handedness. This action is in compliance with the existing rules and regulations of the state.

This information was shared in a statement issued on Monday and signed by the Director of the Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department, Adebayo Taofiq, acting on behalf of the General Manager, Mr. Bolaji Oreagba, of the traffic regulatory agency.

According to Oreagba, the 14 individuals under scrutiny consist of 11 senior and three junior LASTMA officers who were apprehended at various locations throughout the state, engaging in extortion (soliciting bribes) from motorists.

Their cases will be forwarded to a disciplinary panel where they will be subjected to charges. Oreagba emphasized the necessity for transparency within the agency and vowed that, in collaboration with the state government, stringent penalties will continue to be imposed on officers and personnel as part of ongoing efforts to eliminate the few individuals who are tarnishing the agency’s reputation.

“We, therefore, call upon residents, especially the motoring public, to assist us by promptly reporting any misconduct by officers to the nearest LASTMA offices or by utilizing any of the Agency’s complaint hotlines (08100565860, 08129928503, 08129928515 & 08129928597), along with supporting evidence,” he urged.

The General Manager also advised all agency officers to perform their duties without any bias, in accordance with the established laws governing their authority, as any operative found in the process of bringing disrepute to the Agency or the Government will face appropriate consequences.

While acknowledging the dedication, diligence, and professionalism of LASTMA officials, Oreagba also cautioned the motoring public against attempting to bribe traffic personnel, as the law strictly disapproves of both the giver and the receiver in such transactions.
