Pope Francis made a heartfelt plea for peace on Sunday amidst the ongoing conflict in Israel, emphasizing that “an end to the attacks” is imperative, as he firmly believes that “terrorism and war offer no path to resolution.”
With the conflict escalating between Israel and Palestinian militants, the Pope urgently called for a cessation of hostilities within Israel. Notably, he refrained from explicitly mentioning the Gaza Strip or the Palestinian militant group Hamas, which launched a significant surprise assault on Saturday.
In a poignant declaration at St. Peter’s Square in the Vatican, the Pope stated, “War represents a collective failure. All forms of warfare are ultimately defeats. Let us unite in prayer for the restoration of peace in both Israel and Palestine.”
He continued by expressing his deep concern and sorrow over the ongoing situation in Israel, extending his heartfelt solidarity to the families of the victims. Addressing the gathered crowd after the customary Angelus prayer, he affirmed, “I offer my prayers for those enduring moments of terror and anguish.”
The Pope concluded his message with an impassioned plea: “May the assaults and the use of weapons come to an immediate halt; I implore this of all involved parties.” In a final poignant reminder, he emphasized, “It is crucial to recognize that terrorism and warfare offer no viable solutions; they only result in the tragic loss and suffering of countless innocent lives.”
