The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has issued a warning regarding the imminent threat of rapid flooding along the River Niger and River Benue Basin.
This concerning situation has arisen due to the release of water from the Lagdo Dam in the Republic of Cameroon.
During a press briefing in Abuja, Mr. Mustapha Ahmed, the Director General of NEMA, sounded the alarm about the current situation. Mr. Ahmed emphasized that states like Adamawa, Taraba, and Benue are already grappling with significant flooding caused by the discharge of water from the Lagdo Dam.
NEMA urgently calls upon states situated along the River Benue and River Niger Basin to activate their emergency response plans without delay.
It is imperative to note that more states within this basin are anticipated to face flooding in the coming days. Preparedness and swift action are essential to mitigate the potential impact of this impending disaster.
