A Federal High Court in Lagos has issued a production warrant against Nigerian musician Azeez Fashola, widely recognized as Naira Marley.
A production warrant is a temporary order compelling an accused person or defendant to appear in court to respond to charges.
Naira Marley faces prosecution by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on an 11-count charge related to conspiracy and credit card fraud.
During the latest court session, the defendant’s legal representative, Olalekan Ojo, SAN, informed the court that the defendant was unavoidably absent due to his detention by the Police for questioning regarding the murder of Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, also known as Mohbad.
As a result, Ojo requested an adjournment of the trial.
In response, the prosecution counsel, Bilkisu Buhari, also urged the court to issue a production warrant to ensure the defendant’s presence on the next adjourned date.
Justice Oweibo granted both requests and issued a warrant for the defendant’s appearance.
The judge subsequently adjourned the case until October 30, 2023, for the continuation of the trial.
