A Dunamis Church situated in Mission Ward, North Bank, Makurdi, the capital of Benue State, has tragically collapsed.

“In the early hours of Tuesday, a tragic incident occurred, resulting in the unfortunate death of a pastor when the building collapsed. According to sources, four individuals, including the pastor, were engaged in prayers at the church building prior to the incident. Fortunately, the other three individuals managed to escape the wreckage unharmed.”

Residential buildings and the electricity infrastructure surrounding the collapsed structure have been adversely affected.

The cause of this incident, however, remains unclear.

Upon contact, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Benue State Police Command, Anene Sewuese Catherine, expressed her lack of awareness regarding the incident.

Nonetheless, police operatives from the C Division, North Bank, have already arrived on the scene, while emergency responders are en route to the collapsed building site.

Meanwhile, Benue State Governor, Reverend Father Hyacinth Alia, has pledged to hold the church officials and the supervising ministry accountable for allowing the structural non-compliance in erecting the building, which led to this incident.

Governor Alia made this announcement during his visit to the collapsed building, where he ordered the evacuation of all residents in neighboring buildings and along the waterways to prevent further casualties, as parts of the church auditorium still remain unstable.
