“Announcing his passing, the Boston Red Sox released the following statement:

“Our hearts are heavy with the loss of Tim Wakefield. Tim embodied true goodness – a devoted husband, father, and teammate, a beloved broadcaster, and the ultimate community leader. He contributed so much to the game and to all of Red Sox Nation.

“Our deepest love and condolences go out to Stacy, Trevor, Brianna, and the entire Wakefield family.

Tim Wakefield achieved a remarkable career, winning 200 games and retiring with a 4.41 ERA. He struck out over 2,100 batters and earned a well-deserved trip to the All-Star Game in 2009.

He was a key part of the Red Sox’s two World Series victories in 2004 and 2007. Tim Wakefield chose to retire in 2011 and was later honored with induction into the Red Sox Hall of Fame.”
