The Coroner’s inquest into the passing of the Nigerian artist, Ilerioluwa Aloba, widely recognized as Mohbad, officially began on Friday at the Magistrate Court in Ikorodu, Lagos.

Surprisingly, journalists were denied entry to the courtroom without any explanation provided for this restriction.

However, it was gathered that Magistrate Taofikat Adedayo Shotobi, presiding as the coroner, informed the involved parties during the inquest that the day’s agenda would focus on establishing the procedural framework for the upcoming evidence presentation.

The actual presentation of evidence is scheduled to begin on Friday, October 13.

Mrs. Funmi Falana, representing Mohbad’s family, together with other legal representatives present at the inquest, expressed to journalists after the proceedings that their legal team would be summoning witnesses to the inquest in order to ensure that justice is upheld.

In a letter dated September 18th, 2023, the law firm Falana & Falana Chambers requested the Chief Coroner of the High Court of Lagos State, Justice Mojisola Dada, to investigate the circumstances surrounding the tragic and mysterious death of the late Mohbad.

In response to the firm’s letter, Magistrate Shotobi, acting on the directives of the Chief Coroner of Lagos State, Hon. Justice Mojisola Dada, has decided to initiate an inquest in accordance with the provisions outlined in Section 14 and 15 of the CORONER’S SYSTEM LAW of Lagos State, as defined in Cap C15, Laws of Lagos State 2015.

The talented Afrobeats singer, Mohbad, tragically passed away approximately two weeks ago at the young age of 27.
