The Benue State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed its strong disagreement with the judgment of the Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal, which upheld the election of Governor Hyacinth Alia from the All Progressives Congress (APC). They have announced their intention to pursue legal recourse by appealing the decision at the Court of Appeal.
In a statement released on Saturday by its State Publicity Secretary, Bemgba Iortyom, the party expressed its dissatisfaction with the recent judgment. The party, following a thorough review with its team of legal experts, has concluded that the judgment falls short of the principles of substantive justice.
This reaction comes shortly after the tribunal in Makurdi upheld Alia’s election. The party firmly contends that this verdict does not align with the existing electoral laws, guidelines, and regulations.
“The party has consequently instructed its legal counsel to file an appeal against the judgment within the legally mandated timeframe, at the Court of Appeal in Abuja,” stated the release.
