A close friend of Dr. Uchenna Okoye, the British-Nigerian TV dentist, has disclosed the sudden and tragic circumstances of her passing. Dr. Okoye collapsed in her London home, seemingly without any prior health issues.
Mars Webb, who had been Dr. Okoye’s personal assistant for over two decades, expressed the profound shock and grief experienced by her loved ones. They are eagerly awaiting a coroner’s report to provide clarity on the exact cause of her untimely death at the age of 53.
According to Mars Webb, in the days leading up to her passing, Dr. Uchenna had been leading a typical, busy life. She enjoyed a visit to the West End to see the musical “Moulin Rouge,” had a lunch meeting with clients to promote her new dental product, Mysmile, and participated in an industry event. Remarkably, throughout this time, she never voiced any concerns about her health. Dr. Uchenna was also known for her appearances on Channel 5’s “10 Years Younger in 10 Days” and BBC Breakfast.
Ms. Webb conveyed to MailOnline, “There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding her passing. She was a joyful, vibrant, and active individual with no apparent health issues.
“Her departure has left everyone in complete shock – it was entirely unexpected.
“Regrettably, such incidents can occur even to individuals in good health, with no clear explanation.
“We are presently awaiting the coroner’s findings to shed light on the precise circumstances.
“This is a heartbreaking loss for her family, friends, and the many who held her dear.”
Dr. Uchenna leaves behind a seven-year-old daughter, whom she co-parented with her former husband, Chidi Ngwaba, also a physician. He was speaking at the Hope For Africa event in Kenya when he received the news of her passing.
Although the couple divorced last year, they had been separated for some time.
Ms. Webb assured that Dr. Uchenna’s “warm and loving family” would ensure her daughter receives the care and affection she requires in the wake of her mother’s passing.
She continued, “Uchenna was not only my supervisor, mentor, and closest friend for two decades, but you cannot fathom the extent of her brilliance and her aspirations, as well as what she had yet to achieve and wished to accomplish. It is just profoundly unjust that she has been taken from us.
“In addition to her television work, Dr. Uchenna was renowned for her support of women in business, fostering self-confidence, and advocating for diversity and inclusion.”
