Aaron Wan-Bissaka is facing several weeks on the sidelines due to an injury, presenting manager Erik ten Hag with a new challenge as Manchester United’s season encounters a potential setback.
After a promising start to his tenure, the Dutchman’s reign at United has been marred by a series of off-field problems, further exacerbated by disappointing performances and results on the field.
Saturday’s lackluster 3-1 defeat at home to Brighton marked a significant low point, as the Red Devils have now suffered three losses in their first five matches, a rare occurrence in the history of the Premier League.
Throughout this season, United has been grappling with a lengthy injury list, which includes key players such as Luke Shaw, Mason Mount, and Raphael Varane.
Ten Hag dismissed the notion that United are in crisis ahead of Wednesday’s challenging Champions League group opener against Bayern Munich. However, he will now need to strategize without the services of defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
“Aaron Wan-Bissaka is set for a period on the sidelines after sustaining an injury during the closing stages of Saturday’s game against Brighton and Hove Albion,” the club announced in a statement on Monday.
“The right-back entered the game as an 85th-minute substitute, having initially started on the bench due to an illness he battled during the week.
“Further assessment will be required to determine the extent of Wan-Bissaka’s absence, but initial indications suggest it will be for several weeks.”
