Four individuals lost their lives, while seven others were apprehended in the aftermath of a cult clash in Sagamu, within the Sagamu Local Government Area of the state.
Omolola Odutola, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, announced that a group of suspects had been apprehended following a raid conducted by an assistant commissioner of police.
“In response to the received information, the Area Commander promptly coordinated the deployment of additional personnel to the location. Their swift action not only prevented a potential escalation of the clash but also resulted in the apprehension of seven individuals suspected of involvement in a cult-related incident. Subsequent investigations led to the recovery of a firearm and three live cartridges,” she explained regarding the events of Sunday.
The apprehended individuals include Asaiye Omolaja, Azeez Nofiu, Mathew Adewale, and Bolaji Ogunkemaya. It is noteworthy that Bolaji Ogunkemaya was discovered in the same room as the four deceased individuals where the killings took place. One person, named Wasiu, managed to escape before the authorities arrived.
“During the raid, Bolaji Ogunkemaya provided crucial information, revealing that their leader, known as Azubuike, alias Better, had been apprehended by the Area Commander a fortnight ago. The spokesperson further emphasized that this information highlights the police’s unwavering commitment to dismantling these criminal networks.
In response to the incident, Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Alamutu Abiodun, conducted a visit to Sagamu to assess the situation and profile the apprehended suspects.
During his visit, he issued a stern warning to cultists in Ogun State, stating that their activities would no longer be tolerated. Additionally, he announced a zero-tolerance policy towards senseless killings.
The area has since returned to normalcy after the clash.”
