The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has attributed the recent nationwide electricity grid failure to a fire incident.

The grid experienced a collapse earlier in the day, which was confirmed by several distribution companies. The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) provided an explanation for the incident, noting that Thursday’s occurrence marked the first such event in nearly a year.

“Meanwhile, the collapse that ensued after a fire incident on the Kanji/Jebba 330kV line 2 is under investigation, aimed at preventing future incidents and enhancing the grid’s resilience,” stated Ndidi Mbah, the agency’s General Manager for Public Affairs, in a Thursday afternoon statement.

According to her, the TCN had successfully upheld grid stability for over 421 consecutive days by implementing internally developed stop-gap measures and tools that continue to be instrumental in managing the nation’s grid and preserving its stability.

In light of recent developments, TCN is providing assurance to the Nigerian populace that the nationwide grid restoration effort is currently underway and has made significant advancements. Power supply is now readily available in the Western, North Central, Southern, Eastern, and a substantial portion of the Northern regions of the country.

While acknowledging that the grid restoration process did encounter an initial setback, the agency clarifies that this setback should not be interpreted as a collapse of the grid.

In the course of any grid restoration process, challenges are not uncommon. Such an incident occurred today during the ongoing grid restoration process, but it was promptly addressed by TCN.

Despite this incident, TCN remains steadfast in its commitment to ensuring grid stability, and it is resolute in its determination to continue delivering the best possible service.
