Just In: Army Chief Announces the End of Sit-At-Home in South-East

Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff, announced on Tuesday that the sit-at-home order in the South-East has been lifted.

He made this statement in Abuja during the COAS Combined Second and Third Quarter Conference.

According to him, the threat has been effectively mitigated thanks to the intensified efforts of our troops working in conjunction with key stakeholders.

He stated, “We have also significantly heightened our efforts to address criminal activities carried out in the South East Region by the Indigenous People of Biafra and Eastern Security Network. Under Operation Udoka, our troops have successfully collaborated with other pertinent stakeholders to put an end to the disruptive sit-at-home order that had severely impacted socio-economic activities in the Region,” Lagbaja declared.

“As a result, law-abiding citizens in the region can now freely pursue their daily businesses and lead their everyday lives without fear. Moreover, our collaborative endeavors with various government agencies have effectively thwarted criminal attempts to disrupt economic activities in the South West region.”

Regarding insurgency, the army chief emphasized that significant progress has been made in curbing the activities of Boko Haram and other terrorist groups. Furthermore, he highlighted that residents in the affected states have resumed their commercial activities.

Additionally, the army chief announced the establishment of specialized Special Forces units within the Nigerian Army to address security challenges throughout the nation.
