Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, has expressed his appreciation for President Bola Tinubu’s equitable distribution of appointments to the Southeast geo-political zone, despite the loss of five eastern states during the February 25 election.

Soludo, the National Leader of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), emphasized that President Tinubu has not marginalized the Igbo people, citing the appointment of former Ebonyi State governor, Senator Dave Umahi, as Minister of Works.

Other ministers hailing from the Southeast region include Doris Anite (Industry, Trade and Investment; Imo state), Uche Nnaji (Innovation, Science and Technology; Enugu), Nkiru Onyejeocha (Minister of State, Labour and Employment; Abia), and Uju Kennedy (Women Affairs; Anambra).

During the last presidential election, the All Progressives Congress (APC), under which President Tinubu ran, secured 127,605 votes in the South East.

Soludo praised the President for the “generous” appointment to the region when Umahi visited him in Awka, the state capital, over the weekend. He added that Tinubu considered merit over regional disposition and voting patterns.

“Considering the overall votes we contributed from the Southeast and reviewing the ministerial portfolios, it may not be necessary for us to demand ‘plum’ positions,” Soludo remarked. “However, the President has graciously appointed one of our finest and most qualified individuals, an engineer who pioneered the use of concrete pavement as the current standard for road construction.”

“Nigeria operates as a federation. You cannot sit in your state and expect results with just one hand clapping; you need the other hand, which is the federal government, for things to function effectively,” Soludo continued.

He commended Engineer Umahi for being the right person in the right position and encouraged him to continue displaying strong leadership.

“What you mentioned about the possibility of returning to assist Anambra State is a fantastic idea, as we face significant challenges regarding road infrastructure, especially in how it is executed by the Federal Government,” Soludo concluded.
