President Bola Tinubu is scheduled to hold discussions with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) authorities following his attendance at the G-20 Summit in India.
The Nigerian leader recently participated in the 18th G20 Leaders’ Summit, where he emphasized the importance of global unity and cooperation in addressing urgent issues, promoting inclusivity, and working towards a more equitable world order alongside fellow world leaders.
In a statement released on Sunday, Ajuri Ngelale, the presidential spokesperson, conveyed that Mr. Tinubu is scheduled to engage with authorities in the UAE during a technical layover in Abu Dhabi.
Ngelale explained, “This meeting has been arranged to facilitate a follow-up conversation aimed at addressing pertinent and significant matters within the bilateral relationship. It builds upon the discussions that took place during a recent visit by the UAE Ambassador to the President at the State House in Abuja.”
“The President is set to address ongoing bilateral concerns while making the most of this stopover opportunity to advance his investment promotion goals with high-level officials from both the public and private sectors in the United Arab Emirates.
However, the specific agenda for the discussions remains unclear, but it is likely related to the visa ban imposed on Nigerians by UAE authorities in October 2022. This ban was enforced shortly after Emirates suspended flights due to difficulties in repatriating funds.
Just last month, President Tinubu hosted Salem Saeed Al-Shamsi, the UAE Ambassador to Nigeria, at Aso Rock, where he instructed that issues regarding relations with Emirates Airline and the issuance of visas to Nigerians be promptly resolved.”
