In anticipation of the judgment scheduled for Wednesday by the Presidential Election Petition Court, the Nigeria Police Force has affirmed that law enforcement officers nationwide are “completely ready” to uphold law and order.
In a statement released on Tuesday by the Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), Muyiwa Adejobi, the police issued a stern warning to politicians and individuals with malicious intent, cautioning them against spreading false information and making reckless statements that could potentially incite violence.
The police further emphasized that they have bolstered their deployment efforts across the entirety of Nigeria in order to proactively prevent any disturbances to law and order within the nation.
Adejobi reiterated the police force’s unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety of both lives and property, both leading up to, during, and after any significant judgments.
“The Nigerian Police Force has diligently implemented all necessary deployments and security measures during this crucial period, and our officers and personnel are fully prepared to uphold order and enforce the law, all while respecting the rights and freedoms of every citizen.”
The police issue a stern warning to all individuals, including troublemakers and political figures, urging them to exercise caution in both their actions and statements. The Force will not tolerate any activities that could potentially incite violence or lead to chaos.
Furthermore, the police implore all citizens, regardless of their political affiliations, to embrace peace and maintain a state of calm.
In a related development on Monday, Umar Bangari, the Registrar of the Court of Appeal, announced that the Tribunal would render its judgments on the cases challenging the victory of President Bola Tinubu, who was the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the February 25, 2023, election.
The court further ruled that the proceedings will be accessible for live broadcast by television stations expressing interest.
Tinubu’s election is currently under dispute, with challenges presented by Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP), Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).
Atiku, a former Vice President, secured the second position in the closely contested poll, while Obi, a former governor of Anambra State, secured the third position.
