President Bola Tinubu has arrived in New Delhi, India, to attend the G-20 Leaders’ Summit.

The President arrived in New Delhi on Tuesday after departing Abuja for the summit in India on the special invitation of Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi.

The President’s trip occurred just hours before a warning strike called by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in protest of the removal of petrol subsidy and the inadequate palliatives offered.

During the President’s absence, the Presidential Election Petition Court is scheduled to announce its verdicts in the cases filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party (LP), along with their respective presidential candidates. These petitions challenge the victory of Tinubu, who was the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the February 25, 2023, election.

At the G20 Summit, the Nigerian leader is anticipated to present Nigeria’s perspective on the theme, ‘One Earth-One Family-One Future,’ emphasizing the necessity of global unity in addressing the pressing challenges faced by humanity and our planet.

“While Nigeria’s inclusion in the G-20 is a desirable goal, the government is actively engaged in extensive consultations to carefully assess both the advantages and risks associated with G-20 membership.

“After concluding consultations, the government will determine whether to apply for membership as deemed appropriate. President Tinubu’s participation in the G-20 Summit in India serves as a significant step towards achieving this goal,” stated Ajuri Ngelale, the presidential spokesperson.

Accompanying the President on his trip to India were key government officials, including the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar; Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun; Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani; as well as the Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment, Doris Uzoka-Anite.
