In preparation for the off-cycle governorship elections scheduled for November 11, 2023, in Bayelsa, Imo, and Kogi states, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has granted approval for a four-week period during which citizens can resume the collection of their Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs).

The electoral commission has announced that during the specified timeframe, registered voters who were unable to collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) before the suspension of the exercise on February 5, 2023, prior to the last general elections, will have an opportunity to retrieve their cards.

In a statement released on Tuesday, INEC National Commissioner, Sam Olumekun, stated, “The Commission has designated weekdays (Monday to Friday) from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm for PVC collection, spanning a period of four weeks, starting from September 11th to October 9th, 2023.”

Furthermore, Olumekun added, “PVCs can be collected at all our Local Government offices in the three respective States: eight in Bayelsa, 27 in Imo, and 21 in Kogi. Additionally, the Commission has established other designated centers to accommodate the substantial number of uncollected PVCs. The Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) in the three states will provide detailed information regarding the locations of these centers.”

The Commission additionally reassigned two Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) to different states. Obo Effanga, who previously served as the REC for Edo State, will now assume the role in Bayelsa for the upcoming off-cycle governorship election, while Ayobami Salami is being transferred from Ekiti State to Lagos. INEC noted that both states had been without RECs since the completion of the previous officeholders’ tenures.

The electoral body urges political parties and candidates to maintain a peaceful atmosphere and to refrain from making statements or taking actions that could potentially disrupt the peace during their ongoing campaign activities.
