President Bola Tinubu is scheduled to depart for New Delhi, India today to participate in the G-20 Leaders’ Summit, as confirmed by his spokesperson, Ajuri Ngelale.
In a statement released on Sunday, Ngelale announced that the President is scheduled to depart from Abuja for an upcoming summit in India. This special invitation comes from Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi.
“As part of his participation in the Summit, the President will engage in delivering keynote addresses at two significant events: the Nigeria-India Presidential Roundtable and the Nigeria-India Business Conference,” the statement mentioned.
The executive roundtable is expected to draw the attendance of prominent figures from the Indian private sector, leading Nigerian industrialists, and senior government officials representing both nations.
The President’s primary objective is to utilize this platform to attract global capital and stimulate increased foreign direct investments in crucial, labor-intensive sectors of Nigeria’s economy. This strategy aims to foster job creation and expand revenue sources.
“Furthermore, he intends to seize this opportunity to underscore Nigeria’s appeal as an investment hub, specifically elucidating his comprehensive cross-sectoral reform strategy encapsulated within the Renewed Hope Agenda,” Ngelale affirmed.
During the G20 Summit, the Nigerian leader is poised to present Nigeria’s perspective on the theme, ‘One Earth-One Family-One Future,’ emphasizing the global unity needed to tackle the challenges confronting humanity and our planet.
“While Nigeria’s potential G-20 membership is certainly appealing, the government has undertaken extensive consultations to carefully assess the advantages and risks associated with such a commitment.
“Once these consultations are finalized, the government will determine whether to pursue membership, as deemed appropriate. President Tinubu’s participation in the G-20 Summit in India is a significant step in advancing this objective.”
The President is scheduled to embark on a trip to India, accompanied by a high-level delegation including the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar; the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun; the Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani; and the Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment, Doris Uzoka-Anite.
The statement further states, “President Tinubu will promptly return to Nigeria upon the conclusion of the Summit.”
