On Monday, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos inaugurated the commencement of operations for the Lagos Blue Line rail by taking its inaugural ride.
The governor embarked on a journey from Marina station to Mile 2 at approximately 9:00 a.m. Prior to boarding the train, Governor Sanwo-Olu elucidated the necessary conditions for train boarding to his fellow passengers.
Joining Governor Sanwo-Olu on this excursion were his spouse, Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat, Secretary to the State Government Mrs. Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, former Deputy Governor Femi Pedro, ex-Speaker of the House of Assembly Adeyemi Ikuforiji, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, and several other government dignitaries.
According to the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), during the initial month, the train service will operate with only 12 trips utilizing the locomotive system.
LAMATA’s Managing Director, Abimbola Akinajo, has announced that the agency will initiate electric-powered train operations with an initial schedule of 76 trips. It is anticipated that the service will accommodate an estimated passenger capacity ranging from 150,000 to 175,000, operating daily from 5:30 a.m. to 11 p.m.
“We have installed more than 300 CCTV cameras throughout the entire rail network, with over 30 cameras dedicated to monitoring the tracks alone. Command and control centers are operational at all stations along the track. Lagos, this project belongs to you,” he emphasized.
“Please take ownership and treat it with the respect it deserves, as you would your own property. Any disruptions or disturbances on the train will not be condoned. It is imperative to stress that any acts of vandalism will also face strict consequences.”
