Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, wholeheartedly expresses his belief that the selection of former Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, for the esteemed role of Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister is truly deserving.

The Governor of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in a statement on the platform X, previously referred to as Twitter, commended Wike for his diligent efforts in achieving his latest milestone.

Fintiri acknowledged that Wike has established a significant precedent by becoming the foremost opposition politician to secure a position in the Federal Executive Council (FEC) of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

“Extending my heartfelt congratulations on your successful Senate screening and your well-deserved appointment as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja,” the statement read in part.

“Your Excellency, Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, you have established a remarkable precedent and showcased exemplary leadership traits through your dedicated service and effective governance during your tenure as the Governor of Rivers State. This has undoubtedly contributed to your deserving of this esteemed position.

“I am confident that you will persist in fostering enhanced growth and development in the FCT, much akin to your achievements in Rivers State as Governor.

“My esteemed brother and cherished friend, I extend heartfelt congratulations on your well-deserved appointment. Your journey to this juncture has been marked by diligent efforts, and I am truly elated to witness your accomplishments being acknowledged through this new responsibility. Truly, it is an honor well-earned.”

Wike was among the 45 ministers inaugurated by President Bola Tinubu on Monday as members of the Federal Executive Council (FEC).

Efforts were made to suspend Wike from the PDP due to his associations with influential figures within the APC. However, the former governor and his allies secured court orders to halt these proposed actions.

Furthermore, the ex-governor stated that he had informed the leadership of his party before accepting the appointment from the President.

Wike was one of the five former governors of the PDP collectively known as the G5. They expressed opposition to their party’s nominee, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, during the lead-up to the presidential election on February 25, 2023.

Acknowledging his involvement, the former Rivers governor admitted to actively working against Atiku’s candidacy and openly supporting Tinubu, who was the APC’s candidate and ultimately emerged victorious in the closely contested election.

Interestingly, it’s worth noting that Fintiri currently holds the position of governor in Atiku’s home state.
