Just In: NAF Helicopter Crash Occurs in Niger State

On Monday, a Nigerian Air Force MI-171 Helicopter, engaged in a critical casualty evacuation mission, tragically crashed in close proximity to Chukuba Village within Niger State.

NAF’s spokesperson, Edward Gabkwet, issued a statement confirming the occurrence of the accident.

The incident took place around 1 pm, and as of the current press time, the identities and origin of the individuals on board remain undisclosed.

The aircraft had initially taken off from Zungeru Primary School on its way to Kaduna. However, it was subsequently identified that the aircraft had tragically crashed near Chukuba Village, located within the Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State.

“Ongoing efforts are underway to rescue both the crew and passengers aboard the helicopter. Preliminary investigations have also been initiated to ascertain the likely cause of the crash,” the statement further mentioned.

Tragedy struck on February 22, 2021, as seven NAF personnel lost their lives in a devastating plane crash during their journey from Abuja to Minna, the capital of Niger State. The aircraft went down shortly after takeoff from the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport in Abuja.
