Flagbearer of the Labour Party (LP) in the presidential poll held on February 25, 2023, Mr. Peter Obi, has restated his unwavering dedication to fostering a renewed Nigeria anchored in the growth and empowerment of its youth.
In a statement released on Saturday to commemorate World Youth Day, the former Governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, fervently called upon the Nigerian youth to maintain resolute determination and unwavering hope in the face of the country’s ongoing political and economic trials.
Obi articulated his vision for a New Nigeria firmly grounded in the advancement and productivity of its young population.
Amidst the current backdrop of political turmoil and economic challenges, he inspired the youth to perceive these obstacles not as hindrances but rather as incentives. “The prevailing issues should fuel their unwavering commitment to the aspiration of a transformed Nigeria,” expressed Obi.
He stressed the urgent necessity for the nation’s leadership to shift its focus towards youth development and engagement. In his view, numerous challenges facing Nigeria, such as escalating insecurity and increasing youth-related issues, could be mitigated through significant policies and initiatives aimed at the youth.
Drawing attention to concerning statistics, the former governor highlighted that Nigeria currently holds the unenviable position atop global unemployment rankings, with a staggering rate of 33.3%. Projections anticipate a further increase to 40.6%, painting a bleak picture of a future where more than half of the nation’s working-age population remains unemployed.
“These stark numbers emphasize the critical nature of revitalizing our economy, particularly by strengthening small businesses and cultivating an environment conducive to economic expansion,” expressed Obi. He holds a firm belief that harnessing the productive potential of the youth is the cornerstone to surmounting a multitude of national challenges.
In his concluding remarks, the LP flagbearer emphatically restated his resolute dedication to spearheading a transformative movement for a New Nigeria, one that fully leverages the vitality, expertise, and untapped potential of its young generation. “Guiding our nation’s shift away from a consumption-driven path towards a laser-focused emphasis on productive endeavors relies fundamentally on the boundless energy and immense potential inherent in our youth.”
