A Ukrainian woman has been apprehended by the Ukrainian Security Service (SBU) on Monday, August 7, for her involvement in a scheme to assassinate President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine.
The individual’s identity has not been publicly disclosed, but she hails from Mykolaiv, as per officials. Her purported plan involved transmitting information about President Zelensky’s upcoming trip to Mykolaiv, with the intention of coordinating a Russian airstrike.
Ukraine’s SBU intelligence agency reported that the suspect was engaged in “intelligence gathering” regarding the Ukrainian president’s scheduled visit to the Mykolaiv region in late July.
Before the alleged informant could carry out any subversive activities, Ukrainian intelligence authorities were alerted to her actions.
The foiled plot aimed to execute a significant airstrike targeting Ukraine’s leader during his recent visit to the southeastern front region last week.
The woman reportedly devised a scheme to share classified information with Russian operatives regarding President Zelensky’s precise location within the city. Subsequently, Moscow intended to focus its efforts on these identified areas, aiming to eliminate Zelensky, as stated by the SBU.
Additionally, the informant is said to have pursued alternative objectives, which encompassed divulging the coordinates of critical military installations to Russian military units. Allegedly, she embarked on journeys across the region, recording footage of various military sites.
“The individual acting as an informant for the opposing side harbored diverse objectives. These objectives notably included pinpointing the whereabouts of electronic warfare systems and storage facilities containing ammunition belonging to the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Ochakov region,” the SBU communicated in an official statement.
