Mahmoud stepped in as a replacement for Maryam Shetty, also a female nominee from Kano, who was unexpectedly removed amidst a dramatic turn of events last Friday.

Following this, the upper chamber proceeded to review the candidacy of Festus Keyamo, hailing from Delta State. Keyamo, a former Minister of State for Labour and Productivity during the tenure of ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, underwent screening.

Nonetheless, the Senate session concluded amid turmoil, with two legislators presenting a motion to suspend the screening process for Keyamo.
