Mr. Adeniyi Sanni, an aide of Ogun state Senator Solomon Adeola, was tragically shot dead in Lagos State on Saturday, August 5. The incident reportedly occurred when he was stopped at a checkpoint in Lagos, and the security agents questioned him about the documents of the vehicle he was driving.
Subsequently, Mr. Sanni’s wife stated that he went silent after the encounter at the checkpoint, and he was later discovered with bullet wounds.
In response to this devastating news, Chief Kayode Odunaro, the Media Adviser to Senator Adeola, issued a statement announcing Mr. Sanni’s death. According to the information available to the bereaved Senator in Abuja, Mr. Sanni was stopped at a checkpoint in the Berger Area of Lagos while on his way to his home in Isheri. He provided the required car documents through his wife, who sent them to his phone via WhatsApp.
After some time had passed, Mr. Sanni’s wife called again, and he informed her that the security agents were still checking the vehicle’s papers. Concerned about her husband’s well-being, she subsequently contacted Mr. Sanni’s associates, as she could no longer reach him on the phone. This led to the mobilization of a search party.
Tragically, passersby later contacted Mr. Sanni’s wife using the phone number of his Next of Kin, which was on his driver’s license, to inform her that his lifeless body had been found dumped around Toyota Bus Stop in Oshodi, with gunshot wounds.
Senator Adeola, who was involved in the ongoing ministerial screening at the Senate, was left in shock and devastation upon learning about the sad incident. He had a close working relationship with Mr. Sanni for over two decades. The Nigeria Police Force is currently investigating the killing.
It is a tragic loss, and our thoughts and prayers are with Mr. Sanni’s family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time. May he rest in peace.
