The detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPoB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has made a significant decision by abolishing all forms of sit-at-home protests in the South-East. Instead, he has declared that every Monday in the region will be observed as “Economic Empowerment Day” (EED). This development was officially announced by IPOB’s Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, on Saturday, August 5.

According to the statement, Economic Empowerment Day (EED) is a day dedicated to mobilizing the Biafrans to channel their resources and efforts towards reversing the sharp and unprecedented decline in the economic, educational, and social well-being of their people, which had been negatively impacted by the prolonged sit-at-home protests.

During the EED exercise, the people of Biafra are encouraged to make substantial contributions towards empowering the educationally disadvantaged and poverty-stricken population in their community. The sit-at-home protest, which was initially a part of IPoB’s agitation for a sovereign state of Biafra, had been misused and abused by various factions within the Biafra movement, including the controversial version led by Simon Ekpa.

In a handwritten letter, made public by special counsel Barrister Alloy Ejimakor and widely celebrated, Nnamdi Kanu unequivocally canceled all forms of sit-at-home protests in the entire South-East region. In lieu of this, he directed Umu Chineke to observe every Monday as the Economic Empowerment Day (EED) throughout the South-East.

The primary objective of the EED is to empower Biafrans through education, employment, healthcare services, a sense of identity, and community support. The ultimate goal is to restore the lost glory of the Eastern region, allowing its people to thrive and grow. By providing resources and opportunities, the Biafran community can build on their reputation for hard work, resilience, and significant achievements globally.

The Economic Empowerment Day (EED) also calls for strict adherence to the routine calendar schedule template on Mondays to make up for the significant time lost due to the activities of misguided enforcers of unsanctioned Monday sit-at-home orders. This will ensure that the region can move forward and progress towards a better future.
