Brazil’s Health Minister Marcelo Queiroga tested positive for Covid-19 hours after accompanying President Jair Bolsonaro to the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

The Brazilian government made the announcement on Tuesday night September 21.

Queiroga will remain in New York in quarantine, the government’s communications office said.

“The minister is doing well,” the statement said. It added that the rest of the delegation tested negative for the virus.

Queiroga was with Bolsonaro, who last year survived a bout of the virus, at several events, including a meeting with British Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Monday.

“The other members of the delegation have been tested and are negative,” an official Brazilian government press release read.

Last week, Queiroga disclosed that he got vaccinated earlier this year with the Chinese-developed Sinovac vaccine, but did not clarify when he received the shot.

Bolsonaro, who contracted Covid-19 in July 2020, has refused to be vaccinated while he continues to push unproven treatments for the deadly disease.
